Karen Alcock BSc. (O.T.)
Graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1985 Registered O.T. with AHPRA Member of Occupational Therapy Australia I have over 30 years experience working as an OT and have worked both overseas and in Australia in a variety of settings including hospital-based practice, community rehabilitation, general and paediatric private practice. I strongly believe in person centred therapy and therefore I focus on how therapy can best support my client's personal goals, helping them to develop skills, confidence, physical competence and connection within their community. In my work I collaborate with families, teachers and other health professionals to ensure that all available, valuable resources are accessed and utilised for your benefit and support. I have worked with children and adults throughout my career and find that this provides valuable insights which support my holistic work with people of all age groups within their communities. I have extensive long term and current experience using a variety of therapeutic strategies to support children's function and task behaviours at school and home, including behaviour based and relationship development based strategies, sensory processing and sensory-motor development. I have extensive long term and current Australian experience working with people who have complex care needs as well as equipment and home modifications requirements, including private case management. I love working as an O.T. and am always researching, reading and learning so that I am able to provide my clients with relevant, evidenced based therapies in line with Occupational Therapy Best Practice. My personal and professional interests range from brain plasticity, epigenetics, executive function, social learning and thinking to home modifications and manual handling. I'm a proud working mum and community member. I enjoy getting together with special friends, going on cycling holidays, walking my dog, gardening at home and in the community and seeing things grow.
